Elders

Dave Rennalls

David Rennalls, Lead Pastor

Dave was born in Toronto, Ontario and grew up in a Christian home with parents who prayed with him, prayed for him, and taught him what the Bible says about who God is and how God calls us to live. All these things provided a strong foundation for Dave, but instead of recognizing God’s kindness in the upbringing he enjoyed, Dave became a proud teenager and young adult who thought he was a self-made man. He disregarded the God he’d learned about and chased after his own selfish goals and ambitions in sports (wrestling) and in academic achievement (engineering). As he went away to study at McMaster University, his dad was praying that God would break him in his pride.

Thankfully, God answered that prayer. In 2003, God humbled Dave to realize that he wasn’t able to make himself into the man he wanted to be after all, and then God showed Dave that his real problem was the selfishness that had characterized his whole life. It was in October of that year that Dave finally understood what people had been telling him his whole life: That he was a sinner, that Jesus Christ was Lord, and he ought to follow Him.

That’s what he’s been doing ever since. Following the Lord has included finishing his engineering degree in 2008, marrying the delightful Jennifer Kathleen Lumsden in 2009, and leaving his construction engineering job in 2012 to attend The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. The years since then have been a whirlwind of finishing M.Div, Th.M, and Ph.D degrees, serving as Discipleship Pastor at a large church in Canada, having 4 children (Annabelle, Caleb, Timothy, and Samuel), working back in the construction engineering field to support his family, and following God’s call to Kingston Ontario to serve as Senior Pastor of Bath Road Baptist Church.

Tim Mitchell

Tim Mitchell, Associate Pastor

Pastor Tim Mitchell is a recent graduate of Toronto Baptist Seminary and Bible College. Pastor Tim came to Bath Road Baptist initially in June 2022 as an interim pastor before transitioning into his current role as associate pastor in the fall of 2024.

Throughout his time with us, he has served in a number of different roles including regular Sunday preaching, Wednesday night prayer meeting, music ministry, and congregational care. Recently, Tim continues to grow his portfolio, now helping out in Children’s ministry, men’s Bible study, and adult Sunday school.

Pastor Tim comes from Windsor, Ontario. He served as a pastoral intern at Sovereign Grace Community Church in Sarnia over several summers. He continues to do itinerant preaching at churches across Ontario when opportunities present themselves. We are blessed he is here.

Jim Sutherland

Jim Sutherland, Chair

Elder Jim Sutherland has been worshipping at Bath Road Baptist Church for 25 years. He came to Christ at 39, after a family member challenged him to read the Bible. He has served on the Board for three separate terms. He served on the Pastoral Search committee, taught Jr. Church and worked as the administrator for a time. Jim also leads a small group Bible Study. He loves the Lord and wants to serve Him. Jim is married to Dianne and has 3 adult children.

Chris Hardy

Chris Hardy

Chris Hardy has been one of our lay elders since June 2024.  Chris and his family first arrived at BRBC in 2009.  He is married and has 3 children.  Prior to the church adopting a plurality of Elders in 2024, Chris served as a deacon for approximately 10 years.  Among his other duties as an Elder, one of Chris’ main focuses is on the BLAST program (Bible Learning And Spiritual Training) for the church’s youth.  In addition to overseeing the program, Chris also teaches the senior (12+) BLAST class.

In terms of Chris’ background, he was not raised in a Christian home.  He grew up in BC and upon joining the Canadian Forces at 17 years of age, he attended the Royal Military College here in Kingston.  It was during his first year at R.M.C that he first heard the gospel.  Chris would say that by the end of his first year at R.M.C he had come to believe that the gospel was true but it wasn’t until a number of years later that he was truly converted.  This occurred when he and his wife Rebecca were posted to CFB Gagetown and began attending a godly church.  There they heard and saw what it was to be a true disciple of Christ and it was then that he truly surrendered his life to the Lord.

Chris left the military in 2007 and after teaching English in South Korea for 13 months, moved to Kingston in 2009.  He and Rebecca have been faithful members of BRBC ever since.
